Meditations - Day One of the Omer

“You shall count seven full weeks from the day after the Sabbath, from the day that you brought the sheaf of the wave offering. You shall count fifty days to the day after the seventh Sabbath. Then you shall present a grain offering of new grain to the LORD.”

Leviticus 23:15-16 (ESV)

ברוך אתה ה׳ אלוהינו מלך העולם אשר קדשנו במצותיו וצונו לעמוד על הספירה

Blessed are you, oh LORD, our God, King of the Universe, who has sanctified us with his commandments, and has commanded us concerning the counting of the omer.

היום אחד לעומר

Today is one day of the omer.

Last night the LORD, our God, brought us out of Egypt, the house of our bondage with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm.

Today, we walk in physical freedom for the first time in decades.

Last night he struck the first born son of every living being in Egypt from the Pharaoh’s crown prince to the servant’s first born son and that of their every animal.

Today the LORD offers up his first born, the Mashiach, as our sacrificial Lamb, that we may walk in spiritual freedom as well.

“Then Jesus, calling out with a loud voice, said, ‘Father, into your hands I commit my spirit!’ And having said this he breathed his last.”

Luke 23:46 (ESV)
